Olivia Munn Turned Down Role Opposite Ryan Reynolds In 'Deadpool' For 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Olivia Munn as Psylocke
Olivia Munn was offered the chance to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in this February's "Deadpool", but she passed on the role of Vanessa in favor of another comic book character -- but her reasoning is a bit, er, hypocritical.

Ultimately, the role of the Merc with a Mouth's GF went to Morena Baccarin (thankfully), but Munn says her character Psylocke in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" is a character she wanted because she didn't want to play a girlfriend and preferred to kick some serious butt.
Which she does, but...

The actress, 35, talked to American Airlines' American Way Magazine and said that she wanted some action and didn't want to play a character that was sexualized. Except Psylocke is. Sexualized (seriously).
"I said, 'Is there a fight scene?'" she explains about a discussion with the film's producers. "The fight scene could be [Psylocke's] monologue."

"I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, 'Yes, as long as you're not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.' And they said, 'Yes, that's an important part.'"
Ironically, Munn's costume is very sexy and we're sure she'll no doubt constitute some of the "eye candy" in the film (after all, Jennifer Lawrence might as well be naked for half her scenes).
She'll get her chance to kick some butt, but with her sexy super-suit it's puzzling how the former "Attack of the Show" co-host -- who once had to eat hot dogs hanging from strings without using her hands in a very sexually suggestive way, and who has posed for magazines like Maxim -- is worried about her character being sexualized.

Last summer, Munn told Entertainment Weekly that her character's costume is "very sexual" and yet she doesn't want to be the in the film for her, er, assets.
"Psylocke's outfit or uniform or suit or whatever you want to call it is very sexual," she told EW. "I've got like my thigh-highs and a halter, but the thing about that, and that was important, is that it doesn't matter what I'm wearing as long as we're all aware of who she is. She's very strong and she's very lethal and she's very powerful, and it doesn't really matter what she's wearing as long as you have that strength and that presence."
And apparently, cleavage.
