LASG Warns Traditional Rulers Against Using Fake Special Vehicle Number Plates

Lagos State Government has warned traditional rulers and their relations against indiscriminate use of fake vehicle number plates.

This is contained in a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Head, Public Affairs, Lagos State Environmental Task Force and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has disqualified Nigerian Athlete Tosin Adeloye from participating in the 2016 Olympics scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to THISDAY Sports, Adeloye was disqualified after she tested positive to a banned substance at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Super Grand Prix/Warri Relays which took place in Warri, Delta State on July 24, 2015.

A Customs officer allegedly shot and injured a trailer driver in Onne Seaport, Rivers state, yesterday. According to an eyewitness, the officer shot and injured the driver for no reason. In protest, the trailer drivers union shut down the port and used trailers to block the customs exit gate.

Scores of militants have been reportedly killed in a joint military operation codenamed “Operation Awatse” launched in the Arepo area of Ogun State and some parts of Lagos State.

The attack was on the base of the suspected militants that have been terrorising residents in the area.

Reacting to a Thursday ruling by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership has said that its National Convention slated for August 17 will hold as scheduled.

Abang had declared that the party’s national convention that held on May 21 2016 in Port Harcourt was illegal. He therefore ruled that the constitution of the National Caretaker Committee led by Ahmed Makarfi at the convention was illegal, declaring every action taken by the committee as nullity.

A woman left in a phone box as a baby has reunited with the Nigerian man who found her 22 years ago, Metro UK reports. Kiran Sheikh was two hours old when she was abandoned at a call box in Forest Gate, east London on April 30, 1994. The mother, who was trapped in a violent relationship, gave birth on the floor in her bathroom, dumped the child then called Samaritans, urging them to come quickly for the baby.

The United Nations has temporarily suspended aid deliveries in Borno State after a humanitarian convoy was attacked, the UN children’s agency Unicef said on Thursday. Unicef said in a statement that unknown assailants attacked the convoy on Thursday as it returned to Maiduguri from delivering aid in Bama, injuring a Unicef employee and an International Organization for Migration contractor.

The Turkish government has appealed to the Federal government to close down the 17 Nigerian-Turkish International Colleges (NTIC) in Nigeria, saying they all belong to Fetullah Gulen accused of sponsoring the July 15th failed military coup in Turkey.

Three Nigerians and one Indonesia were executed by firing squad shortly after midnight local time, reports say. Those who were executed have been named as three Nigerians - Seck Osmane, Humphrey Jefferson Ejike, Michael Titus Igweh and one Indonesian Freddy Budiman.

A Federal High Court siting in Abuja has nullified the national convention held by the Peoples Democratic Party on May 21 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
It was at that convention that the National Working Committee of the party led by former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff was dissolved and a caretaker committee led by former Governor Ahmed Markarfi was constituted.

The war between the former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Dakshayani is the world's oldest living elephant and will soon be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records. According to the India Times, Dakshayani lives in Kerala and is 86 years old. The elephant is owned by the Travancore Devasom Board -- they have contacted the Guinness Book and have requested that their elephant be officially documented.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan were spotted in the south of France on Tuesday shooting the second Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Freed.
The two stars were filming a beach scene on the rocky coast before hitting the waves on a jet-ski in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France; a scene that takes place (spoilser alert!) during the couple's honeymoon.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)‘s disputed chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Wednesday insisted that only his faction of the party could present a candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Edo.

He therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obey an Abuja Federal High Court order, which reinstated him as National Chairman of the party.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said on Wednesday that it did not reach any agreement with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to sponsor the salaries of the incoming Super Eagles’ Head Coach.
