Top model and current MBGN Universe, Debbie Collins has teamed up with International Charity Smile Train West Africa to create awareness and advocate for children with cleft lips and palates in Nigeria.
It is estimated that about 6,100
children in Nigeria are born with clefts every year. Smile Train hopes
to drastically reduce this number. Smile Train’s local partners in
Nigeria have helped more than 13,700 patients and are active in 36
States and FCT Abuja. As part of her commitment, Debbie will
be visiting some of Smile Train’s partner hospitals in Lagos, Port
Harcourt and Abuja to see the local surgeons perform life-changing cleft
surgeries firsthand and interact with some of the patients.
The beauty queen represented Nigeria at
the Miss Universe pageant held in December 2015, and has been involved
with several different causes over the course of her reign. This is her
biggest involvement yet and as the Goodwill Ambassador for Smile Train
in Nigeria, she will help to create awareness concerning the issues
faced by children living with untreated clefts.
She will also be spearheading a few
campaigns in the weeks to come. To learn more about this organization,
