Transfer Deadline day: David Luiz set for shock Chelsea return

Chelsea have made a sensational £38m move to bring David Luiz back to the club two years after selling him to PSG. According to Sky Sports, the London club's £38m offer plus add-ons for the 29 year-old Brazilian centre back was accepted by PSG after rejecting initial bid of £30m. David Luiz left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 for £50 million, a record fee for a defender at that time. But now he could be set to complete a stunning return to Stanford Bridge on transfer deadline day.

Signing a centre back has been Chelsea’s top priority throughout the window. However, they failed in their efforts to sign Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this summer.
And it seems that they have now apparently turned to Luiz. Chelsea first purchased Luiz from Benfica in 2011 for £21m. In three years at the club, he made 143 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals.
Luiz has often been criticised for his defending, most notably by Gary Neville, who said that he felt Luiz played like he was ‘being controlled by a 10-year-old on a PlayStation’. Luiz was also criticized for giving away a penalty for PSG last weekend, and was substituted in the defeat to AS Monaco. So it’s no surprise that coach Unai Emery is ready to let him depart the club.
Luiz has always been a fan favourite at Chelsea though. And their fans will be excited by the prospect of him returning to the West London club.
