It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it makes headlines. Lynlee Boemer was born twice, making her one of the one-in-a-billion children to have two birthdays. When mom-to-be Margaret Boemer was just 16-weeks-pregnant she received from heartbreaking news from her doctor: her unborn baby had a tumor in her tailbone.

Although this does happen from time to time, Margaret was told that the fetus and the tumor were competing for blood, which put her unborn baby's life at serious risk.

"They saw something on the scan, and the doctor came in and told us that there was something seriously wrong with our baby and that she had a sacrococcygeal teratoma. And it was very shocking and scary because we didn't know what that long word meant or what diagnosis that would bring," said Margaret.
She and her husband were obviously very upset and they were faced with a very tough decision.

The couple could either terminate the pregnancy or opt for a risky operation. Said operation involved delivering the baby, removing the tumor, and putting the baby back inside Margaret's womb until she was ready to give birth "naturally." Crazy, right? Well, it's what the Boemer's decided to do -- and it worked!
"LynLee didn't have much of a chance. At 23 weeks, the tumor was shutting her heart down and causing her to go into cardiac failure, so it was a choice of allowing the tumor to take over her body or giving her a chance at life. It was an easy decision for us: we wanted to give her life."

According to the Metro UK, Lynlee was taken out of her mom's belly weighing just 1lb 3oz. In 20 minutes time, doctors were able to successfully remove the tumor and put the baby back inside where she continued to grow for the next 12 weeks! At almost full term, Margaret and her husband welcomed Lynlee via caesarean section. The little sweetheart weighed 5lb 5oz on her "second" birthday.

Shortly after her birth, doctors discovered small bits of tumor that were left over and had started growing. They did an operation to remove these bits, and Lynlee was able to go home a little while after that. It has been several weeks now and she is doing really well -- thriving just like any other newborn!
