The fashion industry has been
criticized for decades, with detractors saying that the models they use
to present their clothing are in no way realistic depictions of who
people are. Not only have unrealistic body images been the subject of
this criticism, but also rampant ageism as well.
One woman, Nicola Griffin, is showing the world that age and beauty are two separate things with her bold modeling career late in her life. The 56-year-old woman didn't start modeling until she was 53, but she's carved a lucrative career for herself in swimwear and lingerie, serving as an inspiration to many older women who feel like their body "doesn't belong" alongside younger women's.
Griffin is challenging the definition of "Normal" by saying, "Well, that's how it's always been — young girls in all the magazines. They're all very young, very tall, very thin/ Older women, curvy women have never had a chance."
They do now, and Nicola proves it.
